What is Wine? Wine (originally an acronym for 'Wine Is Not an Emulator') is a compatibility layer capable of running Windows applications on several POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as Linux, macOS, &. Wine has always been popular among Linux users for running Windows programs, but Wine is available for Mac, too - and now, free utility WineBottler can 'bottle' Windows programs into separate application bundles that run as standalone Mac apps.

Use WineBottler to run MetaTrader 4 & 5 on OS X, without installing Windows.

Installing MetaTrader on a Mac

1. Download WineBottler 1.5.x from http://winebottler.kronenberg.org
2. Copy WineBottler and Wine.app to your Mac.
3. Start WineBottler.
4. From the 'Download' Section, click 'Metatrader 5'.
5. Give the App a name.
6. Don't let the installer create a Desktop Shortcut.
7. Don't let the installer run Metatrader after installation.
8. Wait 🙂 .
9. Done. Run Metatrader from 'On My Mac' or from wherever you have installed the App to.

WineConf Call for Hosts

This is a call for proposals to host the next WineConf sometime this year. Ideally proposals would present;

• Proposed dates
• Proposed city
• Information on potential venues and travel

We'll need to choose a host relatively quickly as it does take time to plan and book the event. I'm hoping we can settle on a host by the end of February but ultimately that decision goes to the Wine Committee. Questions, comments, concerns can be posted on the WineConf mailing list. A draft of a guide to hosting has been started on the wiki [1]. Please take a look to get a sense of what is involved in hosting the conference.

The Wine development release 5.6 is now available.
