Hey everyone, very new to this sort of thing and have a few questions about using Studio One to capture live performances coming through m Behringer X Air mixer.
As I understand it, I can basically capture the right and left stereo mixes in Studio One? Not, the individual mixer channels (would like to grab those as tracks, but that needs something more, right?).
So far, I have been able to get Studio One to recognize the mixer- the problem I am having is when I 'create a new song' how do I get the mixer output into Studio One to record? I have tried adding tracks, but no luck.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give here. I am thinking it is a simple thing, but I have so little mixing/recording experience with a DAW not sure where to go with it.

At the bare minimum you'll need a 2 channel audio interface to convert the analog signals (main l and r outputs of the XAir18) into digital signals so the computer can understand it. Ideally you could get a 16 channel audio interface and grab all the tracks.

Thanks Walt. So it looks like I am shy a critical piece of equipment. I have the AudioBox iOne, but it only has a single mic input, and I wasn't able to get the mixer and it to work together anyway.
What I did was hook up a mic'ed amp to the mixer, then the mixer to the AudioBox with the USB cable, but got nothing.
Anyway, it is all moot since I apparently need something like this:

The xr18 IS an audio/midi interface already. You don’t need any extra harware for your recordingsto work.
The xr18 is an 18in/18out audio interface and in the companion apps you can setup the routing and record however you want into your daw of choise.
You don’t mention what version of studio one you are using but the artist version can only record two tracks at a time.

Oh, okay, thanks for the further responses! I am using Studio One Artist, so I guess I have will just have the two inputs? Can those two inputs be the L/R stereo inputs out of the mixer? Not sure how to get those to appear as tracks. I don't need multiple channels necessarily, just want to get the mixed sound into S1 so I can create songs, mix them a bit post-recording, and label them.

In the xr18 routing menu goto ‘usb outputs’ and select for e.g. usb1 and usb2 to be MAINL & MAINR.
This will give you your xr18 main stereo out into your daw.

Waves Tracks Live can record the XR18 and then you can add the wave files to S1. You can also use Audio Evolution on Android or iOS or other apps to multitrack your live session and then add to S1.

Bind it to a key. Whenever you want to do that just hit whatevr key you bind that to. It's really that easy, easier than clicking two tiny icons on the UI and then clicking the record button.
One other benefit of doing it that way is that you can have more than just one pre-roll setting immediately accessible, like P might be a 2 bar pre-toll and ALT+P could do the same thing but with a 4 bar pre-roll.

I love this idea. I've programmed in a few languages over the years but just getting started with S1 macros.
Can you please let us know your favorite resources for starting the macro process. For example, I see the code on your page 'Tips for Beginners' (which is excellent) and it appears they are XML based text files.
That's easy enough, except someone like me who has never done it doesn't know enough about the details, including which parameters/arguments are required/optional, where they live in the file system, how to bind them to buttons and/or keystrokes, etc. (In other words, I get the concept, but not the details.)
Rather than ask 25 questions for things that I can read myself, I'd love any links or tutorials you know about that assume someone is writing their first few macros, and needs to have the conceptual framework laid out with details.
All references welcomed!

OK, excellent video series (I'm just watched the first one, plus the start of the second) and I'd love to do some of this. It assumes I already have a macro toolbar extension and I've already downloaded/loaded it.

Now I found the Exchange (Google Search) and I found the macro tool bar.
Note that if you're a newer user, that's not obvious and it's the step I was missing.
Thanks for the references to the videos above, excellent and highly recommended if you're figuring this out like me.

Open Studio One and follow the screenshot then all you have to do is install the Macro Toolbar Extension.

Thanks, I did it the 'hard way' and found it via the 'Servers' in the browser. I also found the macro folder on the drive and see they are just XML files, and the macro manager just writes those for you. (I'm sure if you get all the syntax right, you can simply write the raw XLM files yourself too..)
Now I just need to find some type of docs or command reference.
I already created my first super useful macro by downloading one from the exchange and creating a variation for my needs. I can see how this is an excellent extension to S1.
Now I just have to figure out if it can handle the process with File IO too.
And I have to find the section of this forum dedicated to macros.. It doesn't make sense to hijack this thread to ask 20 questions about macros..
THANKS to both of you for assisting. A major win!
And again, if you haven't checked out the videos AND the tips in LMikes autosig, you should do it now! Very helpful stuff.
